The history of the Boothbay region is inextricably
linked to the sea which surrounds the peninsulas and islands of
the area. Boats of all types and sizes were plying these waters
in the fishing trade long before there was a permanent English settlement
in North America, as they continue to do to this day. Beginning
around the turn of the 20th century, pleasure-boating became increasingly
common and recreational and racing sailors began to enjoy the nearly-ideal
conditions for day-sailing in the region. Boothbay Harbor also reigns
as the perfect jumping-off point for cruises up or down the Maine
coast.
Harborfields is ideally situated
for its guests to partakeof the water-borne pleasures of the region,
and offers services to help make this possible. In addition to the
free use of our rowboats, we offer mooring space for guests who
want to bring their own (subject to availability), rental of our
15' outboard skiff for those who want to explore further afield,
and harbor and island sailboat cruises can be arranged upon request.
Harborfields is also the home of Finest
Kind Wooden Boat, a working wooden boatshop which also rents
traditionally-built sail- and rowboats at reasonable prices, by
the hour, day or week. We also offer winter boat storage on a limited
basis.
