What can you do at Harborfields?
|The Dock is always a center of activity, for boating, fishing, swimming, or just having a party!|
Boothbay Harbor offers great Sailing, and is the perfect jumping-off point for cruises up or down the Maine coast.
Bring your own boat! Subject to availability, guests may rent a mooring, or space at the dock. Nestled on the west side of Boothbay Harbor, around McKown Point and behind a substantial ledge, our well-protected anchorage still provides easy access to the rest of Boothbay Harbor, and the open ocean beyond. Boat launch ramps are located nearby on Townsend Gut and McKown Point.
Rent a boat! West Harbor Receration, Inc. offers rentals of a 21-foot sailboat and a 16-foot outboard skiff, right here at Harborfields, by the half-day, day or week.
Fishing for Mackerel and Striped Bass from the dock is an activity enjoyed by guests of all ages. You are supposed to register for recreational fishing in the tidal waters of the state of Maine. More information about saltwater fishing here: http://www.maine.gov/dmr/recreational-fishing/index.html For fishing in freshwater you need a license (unless you are under the age of 12). More information about inland fishing licenses is here: www.maine.gov/ifw/licenses_permits/fishing.htm
Rowing around the harbor is great fun. The island across from the dock is a popular destination. There is a Harborfields rowboat available for your use. Paddling in kayaks is another great way to see the harbor and islands.
The Rope Swing is a popular gathering place for the kids (and their parents) with a great view out on Boothbay Harbor.
The tidal beach in the Back Cove is a great place for kids (and dogs) to go Swimming.
Birdwatching can be rewarding!
The lawn is great for Kite Flying, but perhaps best of all is to just sit and Relax, with a cup of tea and a good book!
Harborfields is also a great place to host a wedding or other event.
All this, and we haven't even left the Harborfields grounds yet!
There is still much else one can do in and around Boothbay Harbor!

Data from the Harborfields weather station right at the head of our dock!
For those wanting to know the water temperatures, whether for swimming, fishing, or boating, here is a compilation we have put together of the most recent 10 years of data from the Maine Department of Marine Resources here in West Boothbay Harbor (they have been measuring the sea surface temperature almost every day since 1905!)
By the way, since we're such a great base for boating activities, we do offer winter boat storage on a limited basis.
